SofaBaton X2: the new generation of universal remote controls

In a modern living room, it’s not uncommon to have several remote controls: TV, Apple TV, streaming device, amplifier, game console… The result: you often spend more time looking for the right remote than actually enjoying the movie.

The SofaBaton X2 was designed specifically to solve this problem. This next-generation universal remote control allows you to control up to 50 different devices with a single remote, while offering a modern user interface with a touchscreen and smart hub.

Today, it is one of the most advanced solutions for centrally controlling a complete multimedia and smart home system.

Product Overview

The SofaBaton X2 is a high-quality universal remote control designed to make your home theater setup simpler and more organized.

It works with a central hub that communicates with your devices via infrared, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or RF. Specifically, this means you can control nearly all of your equipment with a single remote: TV, amplifier, TV box, game consoles, media players, or even certain smart home devices.

The 2.4-inch touchscreen allows for easy navigation between different devices or activities (watching TV, starting a movie, playing a game, etc.). The combination of the touchscreen and backlit physical buttons ensures intuitive operation—even in the dark.

In practice, for example, simply pressing “Watch a movie” is enough for the remote to automatically turn on the TV, amplifier, and player while simultaneously selecting the correct settings.

The X2 offers several features that make it one of the most comprehensive universal remotes on the market:

  • Control up to 50 devices with a single remote
  • Smart hub that can also control devices hidden inside furniture
  • 2.4-inch HD touchscreen for easy navigation between devices
  • Compatibility with IR, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and RF, supporting most devices
  • Smart home integration with Alexa, Google Home, or Home Assistant
  • Charging via charging station or USB-C with a battery life of several weeks

Thanks to a large device database and a mobile app, setup is relatively simple and allows you to create personalized scenarios, known as “Activities.”

A new generation of remote controls

The X2 represents a major advancement in the SofaBaton series. Among other things, it features:

  • a high-quality metal design, more robust and comfortable to hold
  • a clearer and more responsive HD touchscreen
  • a more advanced control system with a hub, IR blasters, and optional repeaters to cover the entire room

This system allows you, for example, to control devices hidden inside a piece of furniture, in a rack, or even in another area of the room.

This is a major advantage, especially for more complex home theater installations: your living room stays tidy and free of visible devices, while you still retain full control.

What about the older model—the SofaBaton X1S?

Before the X2 was released, the SofaBaton X1S was the flagship model among SofaBaton’s universal remotes—and it remains a very interesting option to this day. It also works with a central hub, supports up to 60 devices, and offers an extremely large compatibility database of over 6,000 brands and 500,000 devices. The X1S already boasts many features that the X2 further refines: One-Touch Activities, app configuration, voice control (Alexa/Google Assistant), and a powerful IR blaster system capable of controlling devices hidden in furniture or behind doors.

Even though the X2 takes things a step further in terms of design, touchscreen quality, and speed, the X1S remains an attractively priced and powerful alternative, especially for users who want a modern universal remote but don’t necessarily need the additional convenience features of the X2.

Our Opinion

The SofaBaton X2 and the X1S both demonstrate just how sophisticated modern universal remotes can be today—and they appeal to slightly different user groups.
The SofaBaton X2 is clearly the most modern and user-friendly model. Its faster HD touchscreen, improved housing, and enhanced hub system make everyday use particularly pleasant. Anyone looking for the most intuitive experience possible and who controls many devices in complex setups will clearly benefit from the X2.

The SofaBaton X1S, however, remains a very attractive alternative. It controls up to 60 devices, offers a large real-time code database as well as one-touch activities, voice control, and a powerful 360-degree hub system. For many users, this level of functionality is perfectly sufficient—especially if you want a modern universal remote but don’t necessarily need the touchscreen or the advanced convenience features of the X2.
Both models effortlessly replace multiple remotes and bring order to the living room. The initial setup takes a little time, but once scenarios and activities are configured, the user experience feels very smooth and comfortable. Our conclusion:

  • The X2 is for users who want maximum user-friendliness, modern design, and a particularly fast interface.
  • X1S for users looking for a powerful universal remote at a more attractive price who don’t place much value on the touchscreen.
Both Sofabaton models are currently among the best solutions on the market—especially as successors to the popular but discontinued Logitech Harmony series.
